Blood cleanup and decontamination is needed on almost every call we respond to, regardless of cause. 

Bloodstain cleanup can be challenging in some cases.  Some items that are bloody for whatever reason may need to be disposed of rather than cleaned, and it may also be more cost effective.    Our years of experience have honed our skills and procedures for all types of scenes, and what works on one scene may not work on another for numerous reasons.

Heavy saturation of blood on carpet – affected area(s) of carpet will need to be removed, as well as the pad.  What you see on the surface is generally 10% of what is under it.

Blood on top surface of carpet – possibly cleanable, but usually paired with heavy saturation sections or the surface area is too large, therefore removal of affected part(s) is recommended.

Ceramic tile, wood and vinyl floors where blood has pooled – it will seep through grout to thinset, and small gaps or seams.  Flooring material may need to be removed for visual inspection.

Subfloors – both concrete and wood are porous and will absorb blood. Removal may be the only option especially if there was a crack in the slab.  Complete removal of the slab is not necessary, only to the depth of the affected area.  Failure to do this can result in foul odors remaining and the existence of a potentially bio hazardous surface.

Exterior concrete – typically not removed, but will be cleaned and disinfected.  Expect some staining.  Additional steps can then be taken by you to eliminate the visual reminder.

We strongly discourage any blood spill cleanup attempt by family, friends, or untrained persons due to

• the tremendous psychological impact on one’s emotions and mental state
• not having proper skills or tools
• cross contamination
• no access to blood borne pathogen personal protective equipment or other supplies
• no knowledge or access to proper disposal of contaminated items
• lack of construction knowledge and the ability to safely remove structurally affected areas
• unknown possible diseases or biohazards
